This weekend, I had another chance to have dinner at Shymansky’s. It’s located in Cobb Island, right across the street from Captain John’s. I’ve gone there a few times to get some food and have a couple drinks.
This isn’t a place you go to get a 5-star meal that you rave about for years to come. This is a place that you go to have a seafood feast, drink beer, and hang out with friends and family. If you call and ask about a website with a menu, they will have to double check how many dubyas are in the web address (true story).
It’s usually not all that crowded, and the servers are always extremely attentive and accommodating. It’s a very casual place, where you can show up in flip flops and a T-shirt. The crowd is mostly families in the dining area. There is also a bar area which has its dedicated patrons that always seem to be there. You can sit at the bar and watch Ice Road Truckers and drink beer. The jukebox mostly plays country.
My mistake is that I always fill up on appetizers before the meal comes out. The hush puppies here are great. You can dip them in either honey or a butter sauce. I’m also a fan of the wings (ask for them hot). Other great appetizers are the cod bites, the crab cake sliders, and the crab dip.
My suggestion for dinner is to stick with the classics like steamed crabs. The fried platters can be too salty. Order pitchers of beer. Spill stuff on your shirt. Enjoy the country music. Play the claw-machine by the bar area. I know I’ll be back.
Scha-poopi, scha-poopi…
Is the spill stuff on your shirt a true story, too?
No, but it could definitely happen.
Lol! It looks yummy. One of my friends got married on Cobb Island…she loved it!
