Last year, I reviewed Mineva in Gaithersburg, MD. That review can be found here.

Well, I went back with a couple friends for the weekend lunch buffet. When I was initially recommended this place for that reason but last time went for dinner. I liked it, but found that the portion wasn’t all that large for the price. I’m glad I went back for the lunch buffet, because the food was great and the price was just right.

We arrived mid afternoon on a Saturday and the place was packed. We were still seated right away and were told to grab a plate and begin eating. They had plenty of options to choose from. Some of our favorites were the goat curry, butter chicken, lamb biryani, and the tandoori chicken. The naan was also really good. They were very fast to refill the dishes that were running low and also refill the water.

All in all, this is a great lunch buffet and I’m glad to know it’s here.

Tiffin – Takoma Park, MD

My go-to for Indian food is definitely Tiffin in Takoma Park.

It has now consolidated with Udapi Palace, so you can also get amazing vegetarian food. I’ve been to Tiffin a few times for dinner and once for the lunch buffet. The lunch buffet was an incredible value. They kept refilling all of the dishes, and everything I tried was excellent.

For dinner, I tend to order a lamb dish. This last visit I ordered the Lamb Sheekh Kabab. My only complaint is that I wish it came with some kind of sauce. I really liked their rice and also the naan. My buddies got the Lamb Palak and also a chicken dish. We all really enjoyed our meals.

Minerva

Last night, a buddy and I checked out Minerva in Rockville off of a suggestion from a coworker. I hadn’t had Indian food in a long time, so we went to check it out.

Located along Rockville Pike, it would be easy to drive past the place.

We were seated and both ordered beers. I tried the Taj Mahal, a 22oz beer that was light and almost tasted like champagne. My friend ordered the Kingfisher, which was a little heavier but still very light. Both beers were delicious.

For dinner, I ordered the lamb vindaloo, which was nice and spicy. I started sweating a little bit towards the end of the dish. My friend ordered the Palak Gosh, which was lamb and spinach. The portions were huge and the food was great.

I’d like to go back and try the buffet.

My only complaint is that the service was not the best. The guy who seated us and refilled our water was excellent, but are server took forever to come around and ask for our order even though it was not crowded.

With that aside, it was a great place and I’d definitely go check it out again. One thing missing from the Wheaton restaurant scene is a good Indian restaurant. My go-to place is still Tiffin, but it would be nice if we had a place in Wheaton.
